Conditions of Sale & Return Policy

1. The Nature of the Collection

Lykos Galerie specializes in works on paper spanning from the 17th to the 21st century. Given the historical significance, fragility, and unique nature of these artifacts, every acquisition is treated as a professional transfer of cultural property rather than a standard retail transaction.

2. Right of Withdrawal (EU & French Jurisdiction)

In accordance with Articles L.221-18 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, clients residing within the European Union acting as consumers have a right to withdraw from their purchase within fourteen (14) calendar days of receipt of the work.

  • Notification: You must notify the gallery of your decision to retract by sending the withdrawal form or a clear written statement to the gallery before the expiry of the 14-day period.

  • Condition: The work must be returned without undue delay, and at the latest within 14 days following your decision to retract, in its original packaging, in perfect condition, and complete with all accessories and documentation.

  • Depreciation: Any evidence of framing, exposure to light, or handling beyond what is necessary to establish the nature and characteristics of the work may result in a reduction of the refund amount.

3. Exemptions to Returns

In accordance with Article L.221-28 of the Consumer Code, the right of withdrawal does not apply to:

  • Works that have been customized or framed at the buyer’s specific request.

  • Acquisitions made by legal entities or professionals who do not qualify as consumers under the law.

4. International Sales (Outside the EU)

For clients outside of the European Union, all sales are considered final. We provide high-resolution digital documentation and a condition report prior to shipment to ensure total transparency. By finalizing the acquisition, the international collector acknowledges the finality of the sale.

5. Authenticity Guarantee & Legal Warranties

Lykos Galerie is subject to the legal guarantees of conformity (Articles L. 217-3 et seq. of the Consumer Code) and against hidden defects (Articles 1641 and 1648 of the Civil Code).

  • Authenticity Warranty: The gallery stands behind the scholarship of its collection. If a work is definitively proven inauthentic by a globally recognized authority, the gallery will fulfill its legal obligations to rectify the error.

  • Inspection Window: Upon delivery, the client is required to check the state of the packaging and the work. Any claims regarding non-conformity or transit damage must be made within three (3) business days following delivery to both the carrier and the gallery.

6. Return Logistics & Fees

  • Return Costs: For statutory 14-day returns (EU), the collector is responsible for all costs and risks associated with return shipping. We strongly recommend using a registered, insured "white-glove" service to ensure the work is returned in its original state.

  • Administrative Fee: Authorized returns outside the statutory EU window may be subject to a 15% restocking and conservation fee to cover archival rehousing and administrative processing.

  • Refund Method: Refunds will be processed using the same means of payment as the initial transaction, unless otherwise agreed, once the gallery has recovered the work or received proof of shipment.

7. Intellectual Property

All illustrations, images, and logos appearing on the items or packaging remain the exclusive property of Lykos Galerie. Any reproduction or use of these elements without prior written agreement is strictly prohibited.

8. Applicable Law

These Conditions of Sale are governed by French law, without prejudice to the application of the mandatory laws of the consumer's country of residence under EU Regulation ROME I. In the event of a dispute, consumers have the right to seek recourse through a consumer mediator for an amicable resolution.
